OUR STORY

Once upon a time, in two far far away lands there were two special girls with dreams and ambition. The first was a London born, tall, sassy queen named Belinda Barrett. The second, was a Northern small, bubbly diva named Hannah Blair. Who up until their meet believed their lives were complete.

But then on a random sunny day (21st September 2014, if we’re being precise) the two were thrown together into the magical land of Waterside Court, Bath Spa University. It was like studying at Hogwarts…

As you would normally believe in these fairytale stories the two hit it off straight away but this is reality and they did not.

Hannah had wild ambitions of becoming a stage manager and Belinda did not; she wanted to be the most successful actress of our time. Although the two lived together, they did not always see eye to eye. While Hannah always tried her hardest to keep the flat clean, Belinda did not. Until one day…

Belinda and a couple of other companions were creating a new music video to Wannabe by the Spice Girls (as most people do in their spare time) learning all the famous hip movements and shimmies. After her classy drinks in the Royal Oak pub Hannah decided it was time to hit the hay. Until she heard the music, the sweet music of the Spice Girls. Now, normally Hannah would have dismissed Belinda’s dancing but her body was telling her something different, so she joined in. That evening the Waterside Spartans were born! 6 students from Bath Spa Uni who made videos for fun #OneTakeWonder.

Many months passed and before they knew it Hannah and Belinda were in their final year of University! Their creative ambitions started to evolve, Belinda had taken a small liking to producing and Hannah had always had the feeling something was missing. Preparing for their future after Bath Spa and bonding with two other queens Lucy Gates and Lacey Ruttley – Leading Light Theatre Company was born!

The four Queens decided to use their magical talents within Leading Light and entered three productions into Bath Fringe Festival 2017: Lucy would direct and produce and Belinda would perform in GIRLS LIKE THAT, Belinda wrote a script called Memories We Lost in the Fire and Lacey directed and produced it and finally Belinda produced Heartbeat a new musical by Ryan Mellish. While Hannah took head on production managing all three!

Battling deadlines and slaying challenges the four smashed Bath Fringe receiving amazing feedback and reviews! After graduation the girls had a meeting to the discuss the future of Leading Light – unfortunately losing Lucy and Lacey to other amazing commitments they have received. Now in reality the two would have usually just given up after losing half their team but this still a fairytale (kinda) so…

Hannah and Belinda have now become the women that created Leading Light Collective LTD! And will never regret carrying on their amazing adventure. In these fairytales we would tell you the two lived happily ever and after but this is reality and they are still slaying deadlines and funding issues, and will persevere until their dreams come true and they hope that you can join them along the way!

The end. For now…
